OGeneral plans to focus on eco-friendly split ACs for India, Mar 10 2010 Driven by strong growth in split airconditioner segment, ETA General, which sells Ogeneral brand of ACs, hopes to cross sales volume of 100,000 units by the end of present financial year with a growth of about 67 per cent over the previous year.
The company, which is celebrating 10 years of operations in India, sold about 60,000 units last year. “While we target to end 2009-10 with volumes of 100,000 units, we expect to maintain the strong growth during next fiscal year too and aim to end March 2011 with sales of 150,000 units,” M K Rao, general manager – sales and marketing, ETA General told Financial Chronicle.
While window AC segment is growing by 10-15 per cent, split AC category has been seeing a strong growth of 50-60 per cent. “Customer preferences are changing towards split due to factors such as new technologies, aesthetic designs and less noise levels, among others,” Rao said.
To strengthen its presence, ETA will launch 3-star rated flat panel 1.5 and 2 tonne split ACs, while 5-star rated model will also be launched later. The company is also proposing to unveil window ACs with higher energy efficiency levels.
Mean while, enthused by strong response, the company is preparing to shift towards eco-friendly less energy consuming ‘inverter technology’ in all its split ACs in future. “We started promoting split ACs with this new technology six months ago and the response has been encouraging. The company has sold over 6,000 units of such ACs,” said Rao.
